| The Preseli Angel - Testimonials (the good, the bad and the ugly) |
Hi,
This was my first event
- 2 years after suffering an heart attack after smoking for 40 years - and I
found the 45 mile loop was a really good challenge.
Good Bits: Good
atmosphere at the start and during the ride ..... Well signposted route.
Not so Good: Ending on
the main road. I would have enjoyed a "we're finished" communal
atmosphere at the end.
Poor: The toilet.
Thanks for a great day.
I'll be back next year.

I really enjoyed the event. My only
complaint, there was no one at the finish who could help us with any
queries. When we asked some people at the food tent about food and drink, no one
seemed to know anything.
A little more guidance at the end,
would have made such a difference to a great day. I will be back for 2010
hopefuly for the 80miler.
Keep it going and thanks.

Big
thanks for the event on Sunday - a great ride, hugely enjoyable, although I
only did the first loop in the end - I decided I probably could have ridden
another 10-15 miles, but not another 35. No problems with the route,
signage, feed stops, or any other bit of the ride itself.
The
only mildly-confusing aspect was that it kind of 'fizzled out' a bit once we
had handed our time cards back in at the lay-by and then ridden back to
the parrog. By that time, the parrog was full of non-cycling
festival goers and there didn't seem to be much room or concern for
anything else. In effect, the event seemed to end in the lay-by, whereas
it would have been nicer to wind it down back at event HQ (except event HQ had
been over-run by then... ).
Possibly,
the event may be 'outgrowing' the festival - maybe it needs to run in its own
right next year...or at least relocate the HQ..?
Just a thought!
Cheers

Never taken part in an organised ride before. Really enjoyed it. Cycled alone so really appreciated the spray on the road arrows as just reinforced I was going the right way even though I hadn't seen anyone else for a while! Nice route but a lot of hills to climb. Did the one loop only and in 4 and a quarter hours so looking forward to the results just to see how I compared to others.
Thanks for organising it - look forward to taking part next year. This has even given me the courage to sign up for the tour of pembs - the short route, needless to say!

Thanks a lot – will be back next year!

Hello,
Thanks
for giving us the Preseli Angel.
It
was hard but wonderful.
Thanks,

Thanks for everything @ the weekend, great course.

Starting arrangements were fine, managed to park ok. Not sure about the card system for timing but I guess it worked well enough. Route marking was excellent, didn’t come close to going wrong anywhere. First feed stop was good, plenty of bananas and flapjacks, lots of water and energy drink. First lap overall was very good, although some of the road surface were pretty terrible, esp. section after Felindre Farchog, it was like Pembrokeshire’s answer to Paris-Roubaix! Wasn’t too impressed with the ford either! Still only 35 miles for second lap ......... but you know about that problem by now! Having covered the extra 7 miles in the 2nd lap, got wet feet again at the second ford and not had bananas at the second feed station, we got to the finish and went for a cup of tea – but there wasn’t any. “Run out of water” apparently. I left fairly promptly after that but some friends stayed on intending to have some food, but were told that the burgers were only for the rowers! Admittedly we were late back (about 8 hours ride time), but I think there were others on the road behind us and a cup of tea isn’t that hard to keep going!
The people manning the feed stations and the marshalls out on the course did a great job and we all appreciate the time and effort they put in. Overall we had a good day out and will be back again next year.

***************************************************************************What a hard course it was for the Preseli Angel, held on Sunday 03.05.09 as part of the Newport (Pembs) Spring Festival, but the sun was shining and it wasn't too cold, so we must consider ourselves lucky even if we are tired.
"Not another hill" was a phrase which came to mind a lot on the return loop. The marshalling and the route signage was absolutely first class but I wish we could avoid road junctions at the bottom of descents.
Next time I'm cycling straight through that ford!
It was a great event.
Thanks Velo-Teifi.

***************************************************************************Great day out and a very hilly, tough course. Only one small criticism. We arrived back late as we helped someone round who was struggling, we were told there was no tea, coffee and food left as the tent was packing up. We also tried to buy a burger from the pub opposite only to be told as we were not rowing we couldn't have one. As you can understand, at that pont all 6 of us were starving. Anyway, thats my only moan. apart from that it was great.
Many thanks
