Meetings Notes:

1.  Tom produced copies of the accounts for the past year 01/01/2007-31/12/2007 which showed that, at year-end, the Club remains in the black to the tune of £114.00.  Copies of the Club finances are available from Tom if required.

2.  The previous minutes were reviewed and agreed as a true and accurate record.  It was agreed that notes shall be kept and issued after each Club meeting; also they will be posted on the web page.

3.  Chairman’s words

Carl took the opportunity to thank Huw for his many years’ service as Chairman of the Club.  Carl commented that Huw's commitment and support has helped ensure the Club remained alive and well and ready for continued development.

4.  Items/Issues:
Preseli Teifi Cyclo Sportif Update
The head’s of terms for the joint venture between Newport Bay Spring Festival and Velo Teifi Cycling Club Preseli Teifi Cyclo Sportif has been drafted by Tom, and has been agreed by both parties and signed at the last sportif meeting on February the 15th by Carl Davies and Michelle Lewis on behalf of the Club.

The CS is now subject of a separate forum and will not be reported on in any great detail at VT Club meetings.  The next CS meeting will be on March 7th at 6:30p.m. Tom’s shop.

In discussion it was agreed that the Entry Form shall be updated so that the entry field was either left out of page or a higher number put in so as not to put off any potential entrants.

Any one wishing to enter should down load an entry form from the web pages www.velo-teifi.org.uk/ or go to www.cyclosport.org/ to view the video taken of the route.

A tentative (for now!) request was issued to the effect that if you are not taking part, could you volunteer your services and help on the day e.g. for marshalling.

Club Promotional Material
Promoting the club was discussed with various options such as adverts in the Tivyside. Tom mentioned that the Tivyside would not charge for press reports, but adverts would be charged for. Carl is to a draft a quick report on recent events for inclusion. It was agreed that a report would be submitted on a regular basis, to maintain awareness of the Club in the area.

Action:  Carl is to a draft an article.

It was agreed by all that we should get some flyers out there and a few posters, James very kindly offered to design these and Carl suggested we should also have some flyers to put in to the Café stops we use, (e.g. words to the effect of "this café is supported by Velo Teifi Cycling club" etc) James kindly offered to design these too.

Huw also suggested that we put our "VT" Logo on the posters and flyers, he will get the design from EPL cardigan so James can use it.
Action: Huw to get Logo design from EPL for James.

Horns!
As most of you know, Colin has the best sounding tune on his bike (carefully chosen words) and it was suggested that several 'tunes' sounded on any given bike ride would possibly serve to help highlight to the world that a cycling club existed.  Indeed, it could become a talking point in the area (Newcastle Emlyn being mentioned several times).  Additionally, discussion was held about presenting a more 'friendly face' of cycling, and not just a bunch of stone-faced witless cyclists!

Action: Tom to advise on the price of a 'tune'

Club Kit Design Competition
Now officially launched (with these notes). It was agreed that our kit was, at the very least, due a 'looking at'.  Additionally, also the Club Logo was omitted on the last lot of kit so it would be nice to get that back on.   Discussion was held and some member’s voiced desire to retain the bright colour of the kit if possible, commenting that it is a colour easily spotted among others.

There will be a prize for the winning design. Andrew Lindsay suggested you log on to www.ecyclingstore.com/ for ideas, or my suggestion www.bikejersey.com both web pages have some great design ideas for you to work with. Also bike jersey has additional templates via PDF format.
Action: Michelle to send out design Templates to members via e-mail.

Sunday rides
A suggestion from Carl was that we might start our ride’s from different places every now and again, to help promote our presence again and also it gives us more route to try play with, e-mail’s would of course be sent out to all if the start point is changing for a Sunday ride.

Future rides
The idea of the Club supporting organised bike rides involving travel by car to any given location or event involving, for example, more than 8 members, may be given contributions towards petrol.  It was an idea dependant upon the Club having suitable funds and would be developed in due course.

BMX for beginners
Another fun suggestion from Carl was that we have an evening with the local BMXers of Cardigan at the local skate/BMXpark.   This would be pursued in the summertime.

Action: Carl to speak to the BmX lads.

Other Rides
Future rides will includes a family picnic ride from Crymych hugging the Preseli hills to Rosebush and the Tafarn zinc and back; a trip to the Newport velodrome; ride to Lysyfran maybe with a hill climb.

It was suggested that we could organize a Preseli loop race: Newport against Velo Teifi, sometime in June 2008. A note would be put on the website to gauge interest.

Action: Carl to update Website with request for interest in Newport vs VT race.

Local MTBing and route identifation was discussed.  Paul Toft agreed to investigate possible local routes, linking off-road opportunities in the area.

Action: Paul Toft to investigate and report options for 'off-roading' in the area.

Raising Money
Carl agreed to look into various options for seeking grant or other financial support to the club, reporting back in due course.

Action: Carl to investigate possible funding options for VT

First Aid Training
It was suggested that it would be a good idea if some of us took first aid training, especially with the mountain biking when we are often far from help (or when we are riding with Barry 'Cardi').
Action: Carl to investigate possible 'short courses'

Events Calendar

Tom suggested we post a calendar of upcoming events for the year.  This would be included on the web site.

Web Site Links
Any one wishing to add a link to our web page, be it cycling-related or business, then please e-mail Carl.

Subscriptions
Can those members who have not yet paid please please pay their membership fees which were due in January.  Fees are: £10 single or £15 for family.  Post to Michelle or drop in to New image Bicycles or bring it on your next club run.

Action: Pay subscriptions!

Charity Event 2009
An inspired Paul Toft, came up with a novel idea to promote the club in the form of a charity bike ride around Cardigan town, throughout the course of a day, creating a spectacle to both entertain and raise cash for local charities. This would be pursued in due course (with, hopefully, Paul taking a leading role!).  In the meantime, it was agreed to compile a list of local charities who could benefit from such an event; Colin Portsmouth kindly agreed to undertake this initial list compilation.

Action: Colin P to research and report local Charities

Date of Next Meeting

No date was set, however the next meting will be arranged when required and advised to all in due course.
